Other reviews kept me away from this series for far too long. I kept seeing two complaints:
1. Confusing characters. People were having trouble keeping track of who was who. I can say there is a touch of validity to this complaint. After I just practiced a bit of “active” listening I was able to keep track no problem. Not a story you can half listen to.
2. The whoosh sound effect. I never once felt this took me out of the story. It helped mark when subjects or places were changing. An effective way to “change scenes” or chapters in a story that will s complex if your not paying attention.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series and the fascinating concepts it brought. When not listening to it I’d find myself musing how I could work unique ideas i to my own writing. I realized this work was inspiring me and waking up my creative mind.
The characters don’t always make expected choices, which somehow makes them feel more real.
This whole series was well worth the credit. Took me almost 2 months to get through too!
Thank you to the author, the always fabulous voice talent and to audible for making it available to us.
