I absolutely adore the way Scott Baron tells a story, and the world he has created is beyond immersive. A lot of books these days get hung up on shock factor. They try to figure out some new way to keep you on your toes and subvert your expectations, often sacrificing continuity in storytelling to deliver shock out of nowhere. This series is different. Sure, there are twists and turns and plot devices like any other science fiction or fantasy piece. But where other books may stall with filler then deliver the bulk of the story in the form of an waterfall, the Dragon Mage series is a meandering brook, flowing the reader through the story organically and with natural purpose. Baron’s writing and Bennett’s narration are a perfect match for each other, and I look forward with eager anticipation to the next entry in the series.
