My employer asked me to look into the possibility of implementing the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) for our company and I started by listening to Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business while commuting to work. I have since listened to the book three times and our company has been implementing EOS for almost a year.
Traction and EOS are very useful–nay, transformative–if implemented properly. The value can become very real and tangible to an organization if everyone in the organization’s top leadership and management positions commit to it. Anyone could read and benefit from this book, but it is definitely geared toward owners and owners are positioned to realize the most value from it through its concepts of organization, delegation and refinement etc.
Traction flows well and includes narrative snippets, so it was very much a readable (or “listenable”) book. The reader is great and there are quite a few valuable concepts that could stand by themselves. But I don’t think the book as whole stands by itself because it is the introduction to EOS. Largely because of the all-or-nothing approach to EOS in Traction, I wouldn’t immediately recommend this book to someone just looking for a book on management or leadership, but I would definitely and unreservedly recommend it to an organization or business leader who is ready to try something drastic to get a grip on their business.
