Given the book’s preface, I was worried that Torment’s religious (and likely Christian) overtones would annoy me, and I wouldn’t like the book. I ended up falling absolutely in love with the story and thought that the Christianity angle augmented the story. That’s exactly how I feel about NPC, having just finished it. Having the Christian belief system play a huge role in the philosophical/theoretical discussion of reality, and who/what God is, helped me relate to the concepts more. It was such a fascinating read and has left me thinking about the world and my belief in God in a really unique way.
