The contradictory headline was deliberately chosen for this story. Henry and Ivo clearly “get” each other from their first meeting as young men with a nasty father and a trophy wife mother. They are each other’s home even as they drift apart and come back together due to Ivo’s career and Henry’s desperate attempts to fill the Ivo shaped space in his life and heart with numerous other hook ups. I really thought this was going to be a romance that ended with our two main characters not together happily ever after when in the penultimate scene, Ivo makes a choice then leaves Henry a message and a plea. Henry’s response broke my heart. However, in true romance style all comes right in the end. Through all the trials and heartbreak, you never fail to feel the warmth and comfort these two find in each other and the whole story has that wrapping around it like a soft blanket. I was surprised at how laugh out loud funny it was in places. I defy you not to laugh when Ivo gets treated by a vet (makes perfect sense in the context of the story, you’ll see). Joel Leslie was an excellent choice of narrator. I enjoyed his accents for the characters and he was able to project both their love and their snarky humor.
