I’ve quickly become a fan of Soundbooth’s productions and they didn’t disappoint at all. Harmon Cooper did a great job making a light hearted yet interesting story. The only reason I gave the story 4 stars is because while I enjoy the focus on the characters and their relationships with each other, I felt that there was a lack of antagonistic storytelling that made the stakes feel nonexistent at times. The MC kind of just handles his problems easily and the one real antagonist with a motive to have a personal grudge against him just has a change of heart and ultimately has little impact on the story other than giving the MC something to complain about. I’m hopeful that the writing will improve in the proceeding books and the narration from Jeff Hays and Annie Ellicott give me more than enough reason to recommend this series.
