I went into this series honestly not expecting a lot. I had never read anything else from Franklin Horton, but was intrigued. Being from West Virginia I thought I would give him a try. I was not only pleasantly surprised with the level of storytelling, but also throughly impressed with the quality character development. I would have sworn Horton had served. I have attempted other others in this genre only to be disappointed with their lack of knowledge of military jargon and the little things that make these stories interesting and believable. The way Horton brings you into this world makes every character believable. “Barb” is a strong female character that many put in their stories to fill a prerequisite that ends up being not only unbelievable but ridiculous. A woman the overpowers every man that she confronts her. Horton provides this type of character in a believable way. The brutality described in this series is how predators act. I coming from a career in Law Enforcement can attest to the lack of remorse these people have to the atrocities they commit. The “Mad Micks” way of dealing with them is how “US” sheepdogs wish we could respond when we come in contact with these animals. I have become a fan and I recommend you order this series.
