I started with Michelle Knight’s book and then listened to this one. It was suggested I go in that order and I recommend it in that order as well. I became so engrossed with the story that I became very emotionally tied to it. And they told this book in such a way that you got a real glimpse into their lives. Obviously I have no idea what ten years of that could truly feel like, but even the sense of it was overwhelming.

Two things which are astonishing were 1.the fact that Castro was such a known member of the community. I didn’t realize a large city could be that close knit, and it’s amazing that he wasn’t just some loner. And 2. That he was still crying for himself and things which were unfair to the bitter end. I can’t imagine having such an insane narcissist have complete control over every facet of my life.

These ladies are amazing and the story is uplifting because they made it home
