This is an entertaining space opera audiobook. It is a fast-moving story of a young man whose world is forever changed when pirates capture his family’s inter-planetary freighter and leave him to die of slow suffocation in space. His skills, a lot of luck, some new friends and a thirst for revenge lead him to start a new life. One that is fraught with danger, battles and both new and old enemies.

I really enjoyed the narration in this book, he brought out the humour and tension in the story well and gave the characters individual voices. Jeffrey Kafer was easy to listen to, kept a good pace and really drew you into the story.

This book has an easy to follow plot with lots of action, spaceships and fights. I enjoyed the characters but did find the speed at which Brad’s skills and life progressed a bit too fast to be believable. Having said that, I did not find that this distracted me from enjoying this action-packed story and I’m sure I will enjoy the next in the series too.
