I saw this book recommended several times this holiday season so I picked it up for a quick listen to reach my reading goal. I. Loved. This.
Quick Thoughts:
– The romance happens FAST in this book but bow it’s presented, it’s understandable since they had been close best friends for most of their lives
– They didn’t even make it to the first event before fake dating turned real and I’m not mad about it
– It’s wonderful that both protagonists are neurodivergent and have cared so much for each other over the years to pay attention and understand those differences
– I hope Evan’s ex steps on Legos every night and is forced to wear wet socks every day for the rest of her life
– That first kiss. Wow.
– Clara and her family together are too dang cute
– Also love that the whole family is 100% behind Evan and understands her brain works differently
– There is a plot point that deals with trauma from a bad coming out experience. The way that is written and how Evan works through that was well done
– No third act break up!
– So glad there wasn’t some family reunion coming back together bs
– That epilogue! Squee!
– Lori Prince is amazing as always. This is the first time I’ve listened to Jenn Lee and she did an excellent job, I will be looking forward to listening to her again.
Overall I loved this book. I normally am not a fan of stories that ditch the main trope (in this case fake dating) so quickly but it works here and honestly it made perfect sense why it didn’t last. It’s a nice quick listen for the holiday.
