I saw that the first eight books of this series were included with my Audible subscription, but wasn’t sold on the description. Then I saw a review that said something along the lines of “if you’re thinking about starting this book, do yourself a favor and just DO IT.” And holy heck, am I glad I did. These books have made my long commutes something I actually look forward to. The first book had a slow start for me, but the more I listened, the more I fell absolutely in love. The little idiosyncrasies of each character became more and more endearing, the world-building exposed itself as more and more broad and fascinating, and I felt like I was brought along this journey of Lindon’s gradual realizations about the world in a way that left me just entirely invested in the events. Even in the violence and intensity, there is a distinct wholesomeness, and it is just SO satisfying. I find myself grinning so widely over and over and over. I’m on the 9th book now, which wasn’t included but is already absolutely worth the purchase. I just want more people to read and enjoy this. Travis Baldree is an absolutely delightful narrator. He clearly cares about the story and characters, and his attention to detail in accents and voices makes this unbelievably engaging. His delivery of the comic elements leaves me chortling ridiculously to myself in my car. This series has single-handedly made my Audible subscription worthwhile, and has reinvigorated my excitement for reading. I add my voice to the others saying: just do it. Buy it, download it, listen to it, and even if you aren’t sold by the end of the first book (which you may well be, but even if not), keep going. And thank you to Will Wight and Travis Baldree, and to Audible for the absolutely miraculous inclusion of these with my subscription… and for the reviewers who told me to go for it. I can’t wait to get back in my car (and I hate driving!) to find out what happens next. Do it! And enjoy!!
