I see that other reviewers have covered this book very well. I will just leave a few notes and move on.
This is a stand alone story that takes place in a world that is developed in prior books. The EMP is past. There are very few people left in town. The biker gang is in charge by default because no one is left to challenge them.
I enjoyed this short story that was about two people thrown together by circumstance due to being in the same town and not being part of the biker gang. The setting is post EMP but that is hardly mentioned as it is only the setting not the reason for the story.
A bit of a side note… When I started this book I did not know if it was part of a series or not. I spent much of this story wondering if this biker gang referred to as the “Devil Dogs” was from one of Boyd Craven III’s other series called Devil Dog that I knew of but did not know anything about. It was obvious that there was some other series this was from due to lack of back story. I know now that this book is part of the world created in the 5 book series “The World Burns”. The “Devil Dog” series is completely separate and that series is not about a biker gang.
As usual Kevin did an excellent job narrating this story. Although, I must agree with the reviewer that mentioned that two narrators would have been nice for this first person story that switched between a male and a female first person P.O.V.
