- I didn’t read the first book of this series, but I don’t feel that I missed anything. Evidently there was an EMP and the main character and her daughter survivied. How they did this I am not sure. If this book is any indication she should have been dead the first week. Bad choices, self absorbed behavior and selfish actions characterize her. Most of the time she seems to think like a spoiled teenager, even when people are trying to help her. Her mental conversations are painful. She gets mad, throws a temper tantrum, sometimes apologizes and does it again. Rash actions without thinking of consequences to others are the norm. Others around her seem to do fine, but are impacted by her childish behavior.
This in addition to unrealistic situations and mistakes in the plot made this a difficult book to endure. For instance the daughter of the main character is badly injured, has stitches, gets and infection, cries out in pain when sitting up and shortly after they plan to walk through the woods. People seem to recover in unrealistically short periods of time, and perform physical activity outside their capability.
Much of the thinking of the characters, mood swings, odd dialog and bad choices make this one a swing and a miss.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
