The second book in the series that is completely brought to life by the unbelievable narration of Jeff Hays. I’m obsessed with the story of Liam and badass Melody and could not get enough of the drama, action, steamy scenes, and genuinely funny dialogue from JJ McAvoy in all the books, including Cora and Declan’s story (have not read the kids spin-offs)
I’m so picky about a good narrator as it brings a story to life. While I really loved the first & third audiobook in this series, I gave a little side-eyed at the accents performed in them. Is Liam from Northern Ireland? Kerry? Who knows? He has this random generic Irish accent in each of those books. Good, but not great.
But Jeff’s narration was AMAZING. He does truly convincing women – all sounding different and original- as Melody, Cora, Olivia, and Evelyn (honestly, I kept checking to make sure it was just ONE MAN narrating and not a man and a woman… he even adds these incredible sound effects that sound like real life, like when he is narrating a character who is speaking through a bloody nose) but where he really shined was with a fabulous Dublin accent for the Callahan family members. I’m biased as my husband is a Dub (I’m American) and it was so much more believable to think they were a family of rough and tumble northside Dubliners instead of people with the generic Irish accents in the other books. He absolutely nailed it.
If you’re as picky about narration as I am and love a rollicking, exciting, sexy read, then run – don’t walk to this one. Loved it so much.
