Ryan Schow writes science fiction and this one is a doozy! It takes place in the same world as Population Zero, just years later. I was curious about the extremely high reviews so I took a chance. I’m not an AI fan (so Population Zero wasn’t a favorite after the AI became the focal point) but I did love the crazy kooky characters. There are similar characters in this series and lots of off the wall humor which I loved. All in all it’s a crazy over the top world with fun characters losing their sh*t along the way.

Because this book takes place after “Population Zero”, the US is already in a very sorry state where suicides and death are common place and starvation is as well. The characters in Sunset on America are used to unbelievable hardship when they are hit with an EMP. (Another EMP fired on the west coast was subverted). This is a story of a community trying to survive when there is death all around. Love it and highly recommend.

This book is bloody and messy but funny as hell too.

Possible spoilers ahead.

There are a few things that bothered me… how many times do they need to see the fake national guard in HumVees before they take them seriously and stop giving them the benefit of a doubt. There’s no way that should have happened at Ruth’s home. Taylor never should have entertained them at the door. That was not believable. Also, yes I understand all the killing is getting to the characters but for them to get soft and start doubting themselves as the situation gets worse and yet clearer at the same time is not believable either. Killing the obvious bad guys getting harder as the story moves forward isn’t believable either.

To Bill the reviewer… if you don’t think that Americans are fighting each other and tearing each other apart with woke views and crazy thoughts then you are and others like you are a threat to this country. We need to come together not cast judgement. Wake up and see what’s happening. This world is a scary place.
