Ishmael Horatio Wong may have just become my new favourite “maritime” character. Sailing through space on a ship that catches the solar winds in her sails, Ishmael recounts his daily life after his life falls apart unexpectedly and he is forced to seek employment aboard rather than end up in debt. Taken on as a galley attendant, he makes friends, finds his feet and generally proves to be a thoroughly entertaining companion to listen to. This slice of life style story is written almost like journal entries, but there is nothing boring about the story. Slower paced than most adventures, you end up getting to know the crew as they sail through the deep dark. Exactly right for listening when you’re able to relax, or especially when you are going through a stressful period and need a book that will help you unwind. Nathan Lowell is a master of these stories! Compelling but easy listening!
