Lydia Michaels shows a darker/ starker side to MM romance in this book. I wasn’t expecting the way this one was written based on my encounters with both Luke and Tristan in previous books I’ve read in this and the Jasper Falls series. I really appreciated her attempt at showing the more realistic struggles gay couples faced and continue to face even now in the current times. I could’ve done without the violence at the end to be honest but that’s mostly because I need an escape from reality when I read romance.
What I loved most is how much Luke’s family supported him when they finally found out he was gay. Tristan just about broke my heart with how patient and loyal he was while waiting for Luke to come to grips with his sexuality.
Narration by David Allen Vargo is top notch and gave voice to both of these complex characters.
