I normally really enjoy derivative works, and I thought this would be right up my alley. Unfortunately it wasn’t. I really liked the concept but the flat reading style of the narrator coupled with the author’s predilection to opine in prose… during every action scene… served to make the story truly a grind to get through. I finished it because I wanted to see if Mr Phipps would be able to wind it all together in the end but, alas, he wasn’t.

I honestly cannot recommend this story. it’s longer than it needs to be, and just doesn’t carry the water it was trying for.
