not much happens in this story, but that’s part of its charm. a peasant is picked up by a cultivation school and slowly grows through plodding constant work. There is very little at stake in the story, and the character doesnt really change from start to finish, but his steadfastness changes and challenges the world around him. If your looking for heart stopping adventure and excitement, skip this one, but if you’d like to spend some time with a very likeable young man just trying to get along. this is a book you’ll enjoy.

the writing style, as a caveat, is a little, questionable. the motivations of characters are not deeply explored so they often do things that you just have to accept, but the protagonist is well enough developed by the end that I found it fun. maybe not 5 star, but definitely fun.
