I got halfway through the third book before I had to give up. The premise of the story and the world it’s in are both fantastic. It’s about the life of a monster. Not “A monster trying to get along with humans and live among them”, but just a monster, doing monster things. The world is realistic (well, in terms of worlds where gods and levels and such exist) and the characters you find make sense. Jeff Hayes did a great job as usual, although there were some cheesy sound effects, they weren’t very frequent.
So why is the series bad? Literal HOURS of rape, talking about rape, people getting off to the thought of rape, etc. I get it, the main character is a monster, it has other monster companions, rape is a thing, and a thing normally attributed to monsters. It would make sense for it to be something that pops up in the story, maybe even multiple times. But I don’t need to listen to hours of detailed smut and rape fantasies. It was just too much. In the third book, there is actually more smut than actual story. The only progression in the story after several hours is that the MC gained a new party member, which it then rapes.
Unfortunately, if that doesn’t sound like something you’d enjoy, then I’d recommend staying away from the series. It’s something that comes up in the first book a bit, but can easily be pushed through. But more and more keeps getting added each book until that’s all it is.
