John L. Monk creates an interesting litRPG series built on twists, bug, intrique, guile and more. The MC is somewhat of a dislikable character which seems like the author had written him that way intentionally. He’s terribly self-centered, and singularly focused but, except on few occasions, not cruel. He’s a 70 old who entered the game realm with the hope of finding his beloved wife who was whisked away into the game and is held captive. What follows is a series of adventures where he and another companion seek out to find his wife and end up enduring unimaginable deathly and torturous quests to find and save her. At times, he antics becomes so ridiculous that I almost felt like skipping over his parts of the telling. I might even have done it except for the excellent narration provided by Travis Baldree, one of my favorite narrators.

In the end, I was glad I had listened to it all and would recommend others not to fall for the desire to skip over the MC irritating parts for, as I’ve come to believe, the author meant the MC to be the twit that he was intentionally and, in the end, he does redeem himself.
