This story is really boring. Man becomes soldier, soldier does his duty while struggling with his conscience while every other character has only one defining trait. The main character doesn’t even do much, They mostly just agonize over reconciling their religious views. We’re told constantly that the villains are bad but the only one we really get any time with is a real mustache twirling trope of a character and it really paints the whole conflict as black and white it’s not compelling.
The performer has one voice, the main character, his mother, the villain, the love interest. They all sound identical. Admittedly he has very little to work with and at the very least it’s very understandable.
It’s a shallow read that really loves to add it’s own syfy terms to things that already exists.
