I have to say, I wasn’t quite prepared for that prologue. Everything I’ve read about this series is always about how fun and funny it is, but man there were some cringe-worthy moments of violence that I was not expecting! Luckily those were few and far between, and the humor far outweighed the darkness.

Felix is is so freaking adorable, but boy did he ever pull at my heartstring- his upbringing was so awful. He was sure able to prevail over it all, though.

I really enjoyed the banter, teasing, and back and forth between Lane and Felix. Lane may have been older and wiser, but Felix was no shrinking violet- treating him like he would anyone, not as someone with a disability. Granted, some of the stuff he pulled made me shake my head at him, but I think Lane appreciated being treated no differently than anyone else.

Although I could have done without some of the graphic violence, especially when listening to it, I liked the suspenseful aspect of this story. I liked that Felix was able to hold his own there at the end, and really contribute.

Joel Leslie’s performance was fantastic, per usual! I love how he portrayed Felix- he gave him such strength and vulnerabilty. He really was outstanding with the humor in the story, playing Lane and Felix against each other. He’s one of those narrators that 9 times out of 10 I’m going to listen to a book instead of reading it, if he’s attached to it. I sometimes wonder if I’d appreciate a book as much, if I had just read it instead of listening?
