As a cosy mystery lover with two dogs, I knew that I had to listen to Traitorous Toys the instant that I saw it for review in the Audiobook Boom newsletter.
I am glad that I took the opportunity.
Set in the midst of the Christmas season, Traitorous toys was a fun little cosy mystery featuring Fred (Winifred) and her adorable curmudgeon of a dog, Watson.
Since I am an absolute lover of dogs, I could entirely relate to Fred and her special bond with Winston; after all, there is no love like that between dog and human. It is this bond that drew me in completely.
As for the actual mystery, the events surrounding the murder were complex enough to keep me guessing, but not so much that Traitorous Toys would lose its place as a quick, cosy read.
In terms of the narration, I can’t lie and say that Angie Hickman was my most favourite storyteller. However, once I got into the story, I became adjusted to the narration style; I’ve heard worse narrations in the past.
Overall, I truly enjoyed listening to this novel. However, my only disappointment is that I hadn’t known that The Cozy Corgi” was a sequel in a series. As such, a couple of the references didn’t make sense to me. Perhaps I need to go back and have a listen to Cruel Candy.
Please note: I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
