Before even making it to the the Aurhor’s note at the end, I had this series pegged as a spiritual successor to Firefly and Serenity, with added literal magic. Carl is a play on Mal Reynolds, and a bunch of the crew of the Mobius feel like members of the Firefly’s crew. I picked this up on a lark after reading the summary, and I’m really glad that I did. it was a very enjoyable 80+ hours
