Having read a few other books in the United States of Monsters world it was really great to see the world before the big reveal. And to see how hard those organizations trying to keep the supernatural a secret were working to keep the status quo. Derek is a great lead character trying to balance morality for the many, the few, and the one with some mixed results.

If you like spy novels, urban fantasy, and the supernatural in general, this is definitely the book for you!

It is somewhat similar to C.T. Phipps Agent G books, there’s a lot of intrigue and backstabbing going on, but while The House and The Society are very similar, the worlds they live in are not and Agent G and Derek are different enough that I rarely found myself comparing them even though I had *just* finished the Agent G books before picking this up.

Jeffrey Kafer is, of course, phenomenal as always. His reading pace, character voices, and overall voice acting ability immediately pull you in and bring the words to life.
