Federal Underground book 1; a spoiler free(ish) review

First of all; Is it worth your credit? I would say it is worth your credit, but it might not be worth paying the full price. The book had several aspects I did not enjoy. However, I did not struggle to finish it, so it is most definitely worth your time!

General impression;
I am actually eagerly awaiting book 2 in this series. The first book seems more of an introduction to the world and the main characters. I rarely think a book really needs a second in the series to actually get me going, but in this case I do.
It is an ‘alien-themed’ book with a twist, with a lot of different viewpoints explaining some of our human history. The part that set me off though is the link with religion, I must admit that I did not enjoy that.

Narration;
Once again I am convinced that switching to audiobooks (in contrast to written books) was one of the best things I did. Andrew Tell is an excellent narrator and I thoroughly enjoy the book’s narration. As always a new narrator takes a bit of getting used to, but I did and it was good!

Characters;
Honestly, I am a sucker for strong main characters, and Penn sure has a lot of potential.He might be a bit clueless at the start, and then jumps into a character development that sounds a bit too good to be true, but I think it evens out through the end. I am also eagerly awaiting more backstory about the ‘evil guys’ in the book. The rest of the cast was good, but I was mostly interested in Penn to be honest.

Conclusion;
Well worth the time and credit, might wait for a discount if you want to buy it. Since I already own it I don’t know the retail price, so this opinion might be invalid. Also, if you are not put off by –explaining things away by using christian references– this might be more for you than it was for me. I titles this a curvy book, since it was it’s spiral up, then down, then up again. I hope book 2 hits the hooooomerun!
