A LitRPG that doesn’t let the system take precedence over its story, and a different feel than I have read in the genre in a while. It is firmly a LitRPG, but it doesn’t need to throw tons of numbers at you throughout the story and instead simplifies things and makes the game system a more intuitive engine. It works all the better for the story and keeps things focused on the characters and their interactions. It intertwines a romance and game lit and doesn’t feel the need to rush anything, and just kind of dumps you into the world and lets you fill in the blanks which people may or may not like.
The narration by the Soundbooth Theatre crew is top-notch as usual and really make anything they release more enjoyable just by being a part of its production. Their productions are usually more akin to listening to a play in audiobook format than to listening to someone read a book. I love the work they put out and it always makes the books they perform all the better for it.
Overall this is an enjoyable listen for anyone that likes romance books and game lit books. It isn’t perfect, but it has a ton of entertaining moments, great production and more than enough intrigue that makes me want to know where the series will go next.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
