Young Ish gets a job as a mess cook on a merchant ship (space is irrelevant–it’s a generic freighter), impresses his bosses by making good coffee and having a pleasant, hard working demeanor, and starts a cooperative effort renting flea market stalls for the crew to sell personal purchases at ports. That’s it. Sorry for the spoilers.
The narrator delivers with gravitas completely unsuited to a supposed 19 year old, but would suit an overly-detailed memoir by a grizzled, successful elder.
The characters are all benign, good-natured chucklers, back-patters, and winkers. Lots of “Oh, gee, Ish, why didn’t we think of that?”

In the preview for the next episode, Ish is assigned a professional specialty and takes an hour of narration to … not buy a jacket at the market. With a tall shipmate shopping companion.
