Let me start by saying I am a huge fan of Jeff Hays and the SBT crew. He is amazing, and Annie Elliott is excellent. That said, they have been doing too much lately with sound effects. In this book in particular there was a backdrop of music in several chapters that was just plain annoying. It was subtle, but it’s mere presence was distracting. There were other effects throughout, which were varying in their effectiveness.
The story is a bit simple and formulaic. Being the third or fourth Harmon Cooper I have heard it follows a similar pattern to his others, though the MC having a normal human crush is a wrinkle.
Overall it was a fun diversion, but not compelling enough for me to continue the series.
