The first chapter nearly made me decide to abandon this book. Just because of how melancholy and depressing it was. But the story really starts after that and it gets GOOD.
There is a lot of religious elements to this books, but I don’t think it is one of those Sunday school in disguise books masquerading as fantasy. It feels more like it borrows from by religious “mythology” the same way some authors use Greek or Egyptian mythology in their stories.
A goddess is mentioned but not really in detail. And just as many people seem to worship the tower itself.
I’ve already bought the next one and will hit play after submitting this review.
