This was a fairly short story set in a somewhat medieval setting that has us meeting an injured dragon named Zephyr. In this world, dragons have not been seen for hundreds of years so when the Queen of the realm hears about a dragon sighting, she send her brother Sir Gawain – who happens to be a knight with his own squadron – to see if the rumors are true.

It so happens that Zephyr was kidnapped and held by an evil mage who kept him caged through magical means and was using him to siphon off his magic. Zephyr is finally able to escape. Unfortunately, he frightens the humans in the surrounding villages and they end up trying to kill him and wounding him greatly. The story starts from there.

Sir Gawain finds this dragon and Zephyr immediately feel safe with him. Things get a little odd from there – only because of the fact that…well, he’s a dragon. This story felt a bit superficial, which was fine because it made it an easy read/listen. It felt very “and they lived happily ever after” but it let several open questions – like what happened to the bad guy?

I listened to this completely on audio and Joel Leslie did the narration. I’ve listened to lots and lots of books with Mr. Leslie ‘s narration and as usual, he did a great job.

One thing that stood out was the character of Zephyr. He was adorable…utterly adorable. I would love to read anything that has him as a MC. I did look to see if there was a book 2 but so far, this is the only book out. It came out in January 2020, so we are almost at 3 years now. I’m not sure if that means there will or will not be a book 2 – I guess we just have to wait and see…..
