Everything about this book left me a bit perplexed. To start, I must say that I requested and received a copy of this audiobook from AudioBoom in exchange for an honest review. The story looked like a good romance, something I frequently seek and enjoy if written well. And parts of this story were well-written. But parts weren’t. There were occasional grammatical mistakes (the dreaded to him and I), and several long sections were just tedious recaps of information/thoughts already shared (all telling and no showing). But while the story at times dragged, the romance between Megan and Garrett at times seemed to move with unrealistic speed, especially given all of Megan’s regrets, remorse, etc. Then there’s the cover, which seems to have very, very little connection with the overall tone of the book. Back to the text: the storyline moved back and forth occasionally between present and past, and perhaps there are physical clues in the written text (space on the page or use of italics), but the audio version often shifted abruptly, leaving me temporarily confused. And then there’s the ending, which I won’t disclose, but which truly confounded me. So in the end I was left uncertain about the whole experience.
