I bought this audio book set because I had a week of construction to do, and needed something to listen to on my ladder.

Book begins with pretty Little Red Riding Hood momma bear and sick daughter caught sleeping in “abandoned” (not) bug out cabin, by the owners. Handsome Navy Seal lonely bachelor is immediately smitten and almost begs Red Riding Hood to stay on and consume the family’s scarce resources after Apocalypse of America.

Red Riding Hood first goes off on men with liberal “what-are-you-staring-at?” type of guilt trip “you are bad people … leave me alone” instead of “oh I’m sorry for breaking into your home.” Then she insists “I’m leaving here as soon as my daughter is well. I’d rather take my chances with hordes of marauders while we hide in the forest, than put you folks out and accept your invitation of food, security, safety, medicine…”

The more they beg pretty girl to stay, the more she dials up her “inner entitled liberal princess” angst over “People will just let me down. I’m better off alone.l

I grew to hate her. But maybe that was the author’s point.

Later after she grows up emotionally, sorta, kinda, maybe… Red has the chance to kill the evil villain. “He’s going to come through that door in 5 seconds. Goood thing pointing my weapon at the door and ready for him!” So Bad Bart comes out the door in 3, 2, 1 and Red just stares at him. So naturally he just reaches out and grabs the rifle from her hands and turns it towards her! What? Who would have seen that coming?…

It goes on…. There was so much estrogen mixed in with “the wisdom of the female in a crowd of foolish strong me” that I found it tedious at times.

Still and all, I was entertained. And 29 hours for the price of 5? Yeah. Buy it.
