An excellent follow up from the first volume. Though suffers from a slowed down midsection. Though the beginning and end retain the interest and excitement you’d expect from the first book, this time there is a rather sizable chunk where the characters are just going about their day. Though this is used to give us the pseudo start of the hero’s journey “call to adventure,” where a character’s previous status quo is disrupted by the/an antagonist prompting the hero to start the journey. However not only does this start mid book, but it also starts far from the beginning of of the story as a whole, causing it to break the pacing that the story had leading up. Fortunately it follows the first act of the hero’s journey to the letter, letting it recover from this weak midsection by promptly jumping to “supernatural aid” to leave off with a Road to Trial ending; as well as giving the plot a clearly line of progression for the future.

Beyond that though, though the story does fix it’s problem from the first one of repeating the same lines over and over. It replaces repetition of lines with repetition of action. Namely a strange focus on the two demon companion’s newly found passion for slapping bits together. Though the first instance was played out fine, and used to good effect for laughs. It kept needlessly coming up to the point of taking away from many a scene.

Still a solid story though, and if you enjoyed the first one you will like this one naturally. Though do go in expecting some rougher edges at points.
