Hunter is a good, solid character, a soldier / warrior fighting on the side of right to protect the weak. I wish I’d gotten a better sense of where he was in the chain of command, more because he worked with great assurance and confidence, than because it mattered to the story.
Jessie has been taking care of her two sisters for years, she has good reason not to trust men… so when a man, an Alien, claims he will help shoulder her burdens she reacts from her gut.
One of the things I enjoyed most was that we got to know so many characters around these two, and well. I want stories for his friends, her sisters, Hunter’s parents as well. Right out of the gate this is a rich universe with strong characters.
