The Immortal Mark is not at all what I was expecting with a very slow build story with instant 18 year old love and accompanying female whining the first two thirds of the book. I get why the primary character’s back story was important, but it took until chapter 24 for it to be revealed why. Unfortunately, the slow build will likely deter some urban fantasy fans, who may be accustom to more action. IMO, the book cover art, though nicely done displaying a sword with what looks like orangeish mystical flames, is misleading since a sword is not presented and no battles or fighting, physical or mystical, are in the book. Overall, the story was ok and has a lot of potential but the first person prose needs more polishing to make the reader/listener want to stay with the series. The narrator did a nice job, but her slight pausing after each sentence may be a turn off for some listeners. Speed of 1.5 x the normal rate was perfect for me. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
