Having listened to other readings by the narrator, I was caught off guard by this reading. Most of the narration is done in a southern-ish accent that quickly becomes grating. Furthermore, one of the party members is an obnoxious Arnold Schwarzenegger voice that is just too much after awhile.

As for the writing, I’m pretty neutral on that. No particularly memorable character or world building. The plot isn’t incredibly intricate or engaging. The resolution, however, might strike a surprisingly resonant chord for some.

The story itself is a journey of self discovery for the main character, done by having him dragged along by literally every other character in the book.

The game aspect of the book is mainly a way to track progress by way of stats(which don’t seem to matter all that much). That and the setting being the starter town of an mmo.

The book is pretty negative/pessimistic towards religion in general. If you aren’t ok with that, this book will likely anger you.

Overall it’s a fairly enjoyable listen if you can excuse a bit of indecisiveness from the MC and can tolerate the narration.
