After buying this title on a whim as it seemed like a good value in terms of course-per-credit with decent reviews, I started listening without too high expectations. I mean, with the better part of 85 hours of audiobook for a credit how good could it be? It turns out, really good! I love the interactions between Captain Carl Ramsey and his crew, the author makes sure we are never bored of the characters as we listen, switching them out as time goes on. As the interpersonal banter and relationships are in my eyes the highlight of the books, doing this makes sure it’s always fresh and entertaining to listen to.
The stories are generally well crafted, most of them between 5-10 hours, and while they can be a bit predictable there is usually a twist in there to make it entertaining. The universe as described is rich, with various species of aliens and a large range of factions and locations explored through the series.
Overall, a very good buy if you like fun adventures. This is great fodder for listening to while commuting or walking the dog.
