This book is absolutely atrocious, even for the genre of pepper fiction. The whole point of prepper fiction is good information coupled with a good story. This has little of the former, and none of the latter. I have a pretty strong literary stomach, and I could only take about half of it, before I was just … done. The characters are just … unreal … unconvincing … either perfect angels or horrible demons. No in-between here! No conflicted internal self-doubt, or troubling pasts in our people, no siree! The dialogue is stilted, and ludicrously fake. The man, Joe, is somehow both overweight and attractive. The women are gorgeous and competing for his attention, and are (of course) either a whore or a madonna.

There is literally an eye-roller at least every two minutes. I defy any person over the age of twelve to keep a straight face when the big bad Muslim terrorist (of course they’re Muslim!) says to the woman “I will now mount you and put a child in your belly, praise Allah.” Good God! Nobody talks like this. Nobody acts like this. And nobody who is a serious author writes like this.

There are a couple of decent moments with the grandmother’s letters, but they can’t make up for the rest of the self-serving, spoon-fed pablum here.

The narrator did as good a job as he could, I think, with this “story”, so I didn’t ding the narration too badly.

For me … this book is going back.
