Childish Shallow Characters and Huge Logic Gaps

I wanted to like this series! Fortunately I only ordered the first book. I stomached through it, but it was difficult. The characters follow shallow, even childish stereotypes, and the logic gaps in the story line and technology are blaring. There is no deeper meaning in it as I hoped there would be. Maybe the next book fixes or explains some of these, but it seems to me if you are going to write a SciFi series, you need to go deep in the first book to catch the reader, not push the reader away!
