This would have been much better reading than listening to it in my opinion. The story was phenomenal, however, the narrators did not fit and made me want to rush through to be done with hearing their voices. They were so annoying and just did not fit. I could be wrong, but I would bet money these were not Black narrators. Every Black cultural reference was fumbled and totally cringe. Again, I couldn’t wait to wrap the story up, because it was hard to listen to the narrators read this clearly Black experience as strangers to the culture. It did not come across authentic at all, which made the narration so disappointing and took away from the audiobook experience.
