The Black Farm is my first book by Elias Witherow, and I look forward to more. With a mind like this, there is no way I can stay away. I went the audiobook route while I was in bed with covid.
After a slew of unfortunate events and the loss of a child, Nick and Jess decide to end their lives instead of dealing with the endless misery that seemed to plague them lately. Together in peace. That was the plan, but when Nick wakes up and realizes that there is no peace given to those who unalive themselves. Nick finds himself in a hellscape, a nightmare. His only thoughts are to survive and to find Jess.
I love this idea of an unending limbo of pain and torture for those who seek to end their lives. If you die here, for whatever reason, you are reborn, only to have to try and survive again and again. The twisted, insane abominations that rule this realm are terrifying. Pig born. It’s nightmare fuel, for sure. I see there is a book two that I will have to check out after a get through a few others I have planned to read already.
The narration was pretty awesome. Tom Jordan has a pleasing voice and did a great job breathing life into these tortured souls.
