So much possibility in the story and characters but leans way hard on ignoring previously established stakes to try to make something of nothing. Half the book explains why/how something is happening just for the the next half to ignore those constraints.
BBEG has magic that is always just powerful enough to work, even if it was just barely explained to us that it cost too much to do what he just did, but now he’s going to do it 17 times more without consequence. The entire final fight is like listening to two toddlers going back and forth why their power is actually stronger and beats the others until one finally gets tired and just goes home.
MC is so angry and wrathful he literally deletes his personality and is suddenly able to just erase history, but then can’t even land a solid blow against the BBEG who is supposedly out of tricks and reacts with a weak “I’m gonna get you” like it’s supposed to mean anything.
