what a stunning story. I haven’t cried that hard over a book in…. well, I don’t even remember.

SPOILERS:
M.L. Wang is a great writer. making me feel the anguish of Misaki even though I haven’t been through such pain and loss myself. Giving up her lover for family. Verbal abuse from father in law. Neglectful and belittling husband. When she got close to Mamoru, I was so happy. To have him fight to the bitter end. The happiness & pride he felt in himself as he laid dying broke me. I felt it, that loss of a child. With me not even being a mother, I took time & talked it out with my own mother, and I started crying again & couldn’t even speak. It’s not as if I haven’t seen stories just as heartbreaking, but Wang got me so connected to Mamoru, Misaki, & her friends that I applaud her for making such a captivating novel. I so look forward to more from her.
