A story told in two perfect halves! Great plot development and narrative around the history and mythology without being excessive on the politics. Excellent use of flashbacks and language and ethnic diversity .
What was most enjoyable was how the love story snuck up on me. That was love fought for if ever I’ve seen it! I loved the love Misaki and Takeru shared and how they eventually came to demonstrate this without changing who they were fundamentally. It wasn’t contrived and artificial. Interestingly, this was cleverly done while they were rebuilding the village. 💞I particularly loved his awareness of his wife and his vulnerability. Who doesn’t like a quiet and powerful man!? 🥰 And… I LOVED Setsuko! Everyone needs a Setsuko!
Great story that may very well rise to number one for 2024.
