I really did not like this book. I feel like it was a more adult level reading of Avatar the Last Airbender, that by the end I had no reason to have listened to the last several hours, and the last hour was just a mess.
For a standalone book it sure was odd how it not only did not resolve the issues the characters faced, but only revealed at the end more about the possible source of their issues, and then just ended there leaving you completely hanging.
I would have given one star for the story, but I like Avatar, so I enjoyed the magic system. The performance I felt was stiff and slow paced, so I listened to it at 1.5x and near the end the performance was improved.
Again, such an odd book that just felt unfulfilling and pointless in the end. If this was a series I would give it more of a chance, believing that the story would reach a true end instead of feeling like you just slogged through a huge beginning to a story with numerous unrealized and unfinished storylines.
I hate giving a negative review, but all the hype out there really was just hype. Reading any single book out of a good series like Mistborn would feel more complete than this.
