You can read other reviews about why the story and characters are excellent, I want to focus on the narration and LitRPG aspects of this series.

I’m a trucker, with hundreds of titles in my audible library, and consume audiobooks at a rapid rate, I have an addiction to LitRPG/issekai stories, and have read a LOT of them. This might be my favorite LitRPG series of them all,

The narration is absolutely top tier. A lot of the LiTRPG genre has acceptable at best narration, even if the book itself is written well. NOT the case here. I’m pretty picky when it comes to narration, and often have to pass on audio books that aren’t to my standards. Regardless of whether or not you enjoy the actual book (you probably will), the narration quality cannot be denied.

Chrysalis doesn’t have the endless repetition of stats and skills read aloud that many books in the genre does. The author helpfully tells you to push the skip button X amount of times in the first few books, and eventually just divides them in to their own chapters, so you can easily choose when to listen to skill/stat menus and when to skip them. RinoZ has done a great job of not taking the listener out of their immersion to list stats constantly. This is much appreciated, as that can ruin an otherwise enjoyable book for me.

A lot of LitRPGs run too long, and take dip in quality after a few books. Not the case here, I am nearly finished with book 5, and am eagerly awaiting the audible release of book 6.

The skill system is pretty unique, and has three different aspects. XP gain, skills, and biomass.

XP is gained by defeating enemies, skills by using said skills, and biomass by consuming monsters. After a certain amount of XP is gained, you can evolve.

The Biomass is particularly interesting, as it lets characters in the world mutate body parts in different ways.

I really enjoyed the system and progression in Chrysalis, it brings something new the table, but doesn’t over complicate things.

55 hours of content is fantastic value, just go ahead and spend your credit, you wont be disappointed.
