I wasn’t sure about this series at first since I’ve never liked Jeff Hays’ narration much (he has a tendency to make unpleasant screeching noises to express when the character is enduring pain, which is frequently) and I didn’t see the main draw of the story at first with the main character as an isolated monster trying to get stronger, since I didn’t feel especially compelled by the main character and he was the only focus at first.
Thankfully, the story starts to spread out and introduce more characters and points of view over time, making for a generally engaging and fun story. Also, I got used to Jeff Hays’ squealing after a while.
