This was an interesting story and story methodology. It was interesting and good for a chuckle now and again, but I’m not going to look for book 2. The NPC(s) going sentient isn’t a new idea, but the book appears to be a beta version and you are viewing it from the eyes of the companion to the chosen one. The chosen one appears to be a beta tester or troubleshooter jacked into new virtual reality equipment with the main goal of “breaking everything.” The player is very irreverent and not concerned about the NPC(s), but he starts developing feelings for his NPC team, and the characters start changing, yada yada. Still a good addition to the genre. It’s jut not for me. If you are looking for a chuckle and a book that isn’t going to strain your brain, this may be a read for you.
